Quick Hive Check
« on: April 28, 2014, 05:18:49 pm »
Today was around 60 and overcast. It's suppose to rain for the next 7 days so decided to take a quick look into the hive.
There wasn't much activity in the medium. Only one bee at the feeder and a few on the frames.
The next box was a deep that was checkerboard with empty foundationless frames and fully drawn frames last week. The first frame was still empty followed by a drawn frame that still had capped honey. The third frame had a small piece of comb drawn that was completely covered with bees. The last three foundationless frames were 3/4 or better drawn with nectar in the corners and eggs in the rest of the combs.
The bees were a bit agitated (weather?) and I saw what I wanted to see (eggs) so I closed them up. I was thinking of moving the empty frames into the middle but figured that with the cooler weather predicted for the next week or so, it was better not to split the bees up any more than needed.
They were bringing in bright yellow pollen and all seemed well.
