Title: Neighbor's spray for Mosquitos....
Post by: Candiebears on September 22, 2014, 05:25:14 pm
I'm going to start my hive in 2015. But I have a question. My neighbor sprays his lawn for mosquitoes. Is this going to cause a problem for my hive? (We're both on .33 of an acre each) I am however in a wooded area with a 8 foot fence.  They come out once a week in the summer and spray at 8am.

are there flowers in the grass?

ask them not to spray when flowering

here I think it is illegal to spray when plants are flowering

I may be wrong

I'll have to check into that. I do know that I went to one Mosquito company and they say that after it's dried it's not harmful, but while wet it is. Like I said they did it once a week all summer. [Really sucked for us, we couldn't even go outside b/c they all came to my yard :( ]

If he does it after dark (as the directions and therefore the law require) then probably not.  If he violates the label (which is by definition the law), yes, you will have problems.

He has a company come out. And the spray at 730-8am in the morning, so it definitely is NOT dark! :(

Then they are in violation of the label as anything for Mosquitoes is required to be sprayed after dark.

Michael, do you know I'd that rule applies to 'all natural'? I just found their website and it says they spray an all natural blend of oils... ??

No idea what that would be, but it's likely some kind of natural permethrin which comes from Geraniums.

It will still kill bees.  And if it's labeled for mosquitoes, I'll bet it is supposed to be sprayed for mosquitoes after dark...
