cool tap water and mixing sugar water! don't work!
« on: July 18, 2012, 08:53:56 am »
Do u guys mix sugar
water w/o heating it
up?
Bought bulk sugar from
a guy and I asked him if
he heats up his water
before adding the sugar
and he said no! Just
add sugar to tap water
and mix it with the
mixer on the drill.
Tried it! I seem to not
get all the sugar mixed
up! There is some still
on the bottom.
I am mixing 1 to 1.
I am doing 3 gal to 25
lbs of sugar

I have tried it in past, didn't work too well for me either. I boil my water now, turn off heat, add sugar.

I have my water heater set to high so the water comes out the tap pretty darn hot. I mix hot tap water with sugar and have never had a problem dissolving the sugar. The hot water is the key.

I'm with JP and set my water heater to 140 and never have a problem with 3:2 but any more sugar than that I need to heat the water on the stove. If you use the stove only boil the water, never boil sugar as it's bad for the bees. One thing that seems to help is to add about half of the water and stir stir stir then add the rest. It seems that some of the heat is lost melting the sugar so the first half gets it mostly melted and the second full heat water gets all of it melted.

Don't know what my water heater is set to but i always hot water out of the tap for 1:1.  The sugar will dissolve in the same amount of time it takes boiled water to cool enough to be used.  I never used cold water out of the tap before.

Seen it done on youtube with cold water, but for me hot water mixes so much quicker.
