Supercedure
« on: May 06, 2010, 11:29:23 am »
Could ya'll tell me what to expect shortly after they have superceded? I recently found supercedure cells and I let the bees do what they wanted as I figured they knew best. I inspected this hive yesterday frame by frame and found the supercedure cells had hatched but I found no larvae, a good amount of bees, lots of honey and pollen, and a queen that appears to me to be young. She is smaller than the queens in my other hives and she moved a little faster, almost looking hyper some. Is this normal? Has she not mated yet? I noticed plenty of drones also. Thanks

Having just gone through this myself, I agree with Irwin. Wait a week or ten days and have a look before you start to worry. We saw cells during an inspection, closed it up and waited two weeks. At that time we saw a queen but no brood or eggs so we closed it up and waited two more weeks. Latest check revealed many frames full of brood and eggs. Good luck.
