Title: Some of the bee hives
Post by: AllenF on June 06, 2010, 03:21:35 pm
I finally got a few shots looking through the woods at the bee hives.  Ain't nothing special, but it works.

Sure makes working them more comfortable for a suited up beek. Mine are in the sun.

Still hot whether suited up or not.   I am just getting to old for to much sweating.   Maybe that is why yesterday I got stung on the top of my foot when a bee got in my Crocs.   But that was still better than up the shorts.

I don't see how you manage to fight off the SHB with that much shade. I would think they were in high heaven there.

Some of those hives get some afternoon sun.  But I have spent some money and littered the boxed with traps and oil trays.  I have seen beetles in nucs on my back porch cooking with full sun all day.  I think the humidity has a lot to do with it, not the sun.

Mine are 20' out from the edge of the woods in the back lawn in full sun.  Is too much sun bad, I'm in NY.  Yours look nice in the woods, bees are caught in trees in the woods.... maybe I have it wrong?  Let me know please. :)  Thanks.

You can have your hives in full sun, year round.  You just cook working them.    People say that SHB don't like hives in full sun.   Who knows?

That's a good question, I have several.  I think that one came from Better Bee.  I do remember it is cheap to buy.  I got a stack of that kind.   And they are metal.

Nice set up! I see a little sun splattering through those trees, maybe a little less than Iddee and myself would like but great set up nonetheless.

Pretty woods.
