Drone question
« on: August 08, 2012, 07:44:54 pm »
Ive noticed several drones coming and going from the hives - what are they doing other than simply flying around... I assume that the queen has already been bred and that she's inside laying therefore what are the drone doing out flying around?  I assume this is normal activity so....  Just curious.

Hi dfizer,

The drones you see coming out of a hive are on there way to mate with a new queen from another colony.  That's their job; spreading the genetics of their colony.  They have nothing to do with the queen in their hive.

Other than that they do nothing.  Look up drones in your bee books.
