Bulk 5 gallon buckets
« on: September 13, 2014, 10:05:20 am »
We're looking to purchase a pallet of 5 gallon food grade buckets.
Any help on where to purchase for a decent price?

I'm curious...how many buckets are in a pallet?

Lowe's gives a 10% discount on five or more buckets (contractors pack) and they are considerably cheaper than Homedepot.  I believe that also makes them cheaper than U-Line's offerings...you will have to pay tax at Lowe's...you will have to pay shipping from U-Line but I'm not sure about tax.  All three of these places you have to order lids separately.

Best wishes,
Ed

Tefer,
I get 3 gallon food grade buckets from Publics grocery store. I just stop by their bakery and ask them to save them. Bee sure to ask them to save the lids. Be sure to stop in and pick them up every week so that they are not filling up their storage space. I have about 25 of them all for free and they are food grade which the ones from the hardware store are not. They also fit under the extractor drain valve.

The ones from the hardware store made of hdpe and plainly marked so are most certainly food grade.  The same markings as the frosting buckets which are not free here.

Not all buckets are created equal I mean some you cannot stack them and ship  because they the wrong gauge and may burst. This may mean something if you are shipping like UPS may not take them or any other carrier.
One thing to remember all the cheaper buckets are not food grade you will find them in places like wally world or Home Depot or possibly Lowes.I have seen food grade buckets at Tractor Supply (the ones I saw there were thin gauge) maybe because you are feeding animals. I do know the buckets are mark on the bottom of the bucket and will tell you if the food grade or not if you can figure out the numbers. You also have to make sure that the lids are food grade all so

I don't buy near that many but I got mine from Wally world, best I remember they were $2 for the bucket and 1 for the sit on lid.  I had bot some from Lowes but theirs are higher.  I also get my pint jars there.  I'm out in the middle of nowhere but there are 4 walmarts within 20 miles.  They might sell them cheaper with a big order.

Last time we bought them there were ninety some to a pallet.
White and unused, with no advertizing on the side.
Would not want them to thing their honey came from Tractor Supply or Lowe's.
Just tired of paying high dollar for a few at a time.
Buckets are much easier to haul and move around than barrels are.

bakeries, grocery bakeries, Costco bakeries, & donut shops all have 3 & 5 gallon buckets for free & they are food grade. the 3 gallon buckets seem to be more plentiful but 5's can be had. you can't beat the price.

Walmart and Sams now recycle so are no longer available but Meijers sells them.   I started charging a few bucks extra for pails last year when I couldn't get them for free anymore
