Swarm Builds On Exterior Light Fixture-July 7, 2010
« on: July 07, 2010, 11:54:37 pm »
This guy sent me pictures of what appeared to be a swarm that was about to move into a wall void in his house. Went by today and discovered they had begun building on an exterior light fixture.

They are very gentle and more golden in color than what I typically run across.

That is so funny JP with the umbrella. You really played it up big this time. You know you look rather nice holding that umbrella. :-D

Just loved this video as usual.

You know I have always been meaning to ask you what you put into your smoker to make it have such wonderful smoke like that?

I use burlap mostly. Sometimes I top it off with some dried leaves at the site.

The red umbrella has really been coming in handy.  ;)

You are extremely funny JP and crack me up :lau:

I am planning on purchasing a new smoker tomorrow when I go to Mann Lake. Going to purchase some supplies. Any suggestions on a really good smoker?? Perhaps Mann Lake will have something good.

Purchase the biggest friggin' smoker you can get your hands on. That's always my advice concerning a smoker.

I just loved watching how slowly and deliberately you moved.  I'm still uncomfortable with the idea of working without gloves, so I'm pretty much in awe of your technique.

Must tell you JP that Shawna has been so inspired by your videos, she has taken off her gloves.  I did an inspection with her last week and she did not wear any gloves and never got stung either even though we were moving many frames around. Wimpy me, I am still wearing the gloves.

Oooooooo...that's a good one!

Thanks Scott! can't wait to see some of yours. Video camera, new stove? Video camera, new stove?

VIDEO CAMERA!  :-D

Hey you guys, its all about being comfortable and confident when you're in the bee yard. If wearing gloves gives you confidence and you're capable of working bees with them on, then hey, who am I to say anything about that.

I wear them  sometimes if a hive is really hot t and hell bent on stinging.

On the subject of smokers, we've been melting wax using the super awesome low-tech method Linda describes in her blog. (styrofoam cooler, window glass, papertowel over water.). The wax impregnated paper towels makes *dandy* smoker fuel.

Waste not, want not!

Ok JP (and Irwin) We went to HHGregg a couple of days ago just to look at video cameras and to see how much $ we needed to set aside. We found a sony dcr-sx41 on sale (close out) for $100 off. They only had 2 left in stock and the Mgr offered an additional $50 off so we bought one.

Not a top of the line unit, but all in all a pretty cool little camera for $169. Now I need to pick up some editing software and we're good to go. I'll try to take care of that this w/e.

Lisa, Linda is a most adorable woman. I tried to kidnap her in West Palm beach but she was too busy doing demonstrations so she was off the hook!  :-D

Her enthusiasm is infectious and she is genuinely unselfish.

Scott, very happy you joined the club bro!

Can't wait to see your videos!
