Title: Re-Queening...
Post by: zzen01 on April 05, 2011, 02:39:04 pm
If I were to re-Queen my remaining hive and I for some reason could not find or see to original queen to kill her would 2 queens fight. What would happen?

Yup, they will fight and you would very likely wind up :

1. Completely queenless
2. One queen may survive the fight, however may be too injured to do anything other than survive
3. Or the new queen you just paid money for may not be the one to come out on top.

I would just take the time to find the old queen-may take you a while, but well worth it.

I find it helps when I really need to find the queen is to take an empty medium or deep box with you, what ever size box you are searching in. Check each frame well and put that frame in the appropriate empty box. queens have a way of sneaking past, under, around the frames that you have checked. This way there becomes less and less places for her to hide as you go along.

Hope this helps, David

No......the queens would not fight. One would not kill the other.  ;)

They would never have the chance. The bees would kill the new (introduced) queen the first moment they could, prior to getting her out of the queen cage if they can.

Now there are two queen systems and procedures for getting two queens to live in the same colony. But that is not requeening.  :) That's another story altogether.

with a mated queen it would unfold as BJORNE has explained-how ever there is a technique that
involves requeening with queen cells that allows the virgin queen to hatch out in a queen right colony
and then the two queens would do battle and in theory the young queen would win-i know this is
not your situation but is something i find interesting--RDY-B
