Title: Hello from sunny Florida
Post by: tlynn on June 17, 2008, 10:45:55 pm
Hi Everyone,

My name is Tracy and my wife Ruth and I got our first colony of bees only a couple weeks ago.  We are so excited and have been learning lots from beekeepers' meetings and books.  We were looking for a hobby we can both participate in and recently picked up a small book about beekeeping and were enthralled!

I decided to join this forum because of the real wealth or information provided by many highly experienced beekeepers, and especially because of the tolerance and patience everyone shows toward the novice such as myself.  So great place...looking forward to participating and hopefully giving back some of my newfound knowledge as I learn along the way!

Welcome to the forums tracy and ruth!
I hope you enjoy this place as much as I have over the last year and some months!
This is the best bee place i know of...I really have a GAS in here sometimes!! :-D
You said the right thing to get my attention for sure!! I liked the "Highly Experienced Beekeeper"part! You must be talking about the other people here..I would be the one considered as "Highly Unethical" about bees! :-D
Also, dont get me confused with "Patient and Understanding"...I appear that way to others because I usually just stare at the screen for hours waiting to see a response, and once a responce is posted I post right behind it to make it look like I knew the answer too!
Actually tho, For me, these bee forums are my encyclopedia for keeping bees!
Sometimes you see the questions and answers posted over and over, but, when you least exp[ect it, POW!!!...A question or answer has you shooting out your door to check on your bees!!
Its really great that you and your wife are both into bees. My wife is into them as long as theres nodody within blocks to help me , then she will get involved in some aspects(Like holding cameras and camvcorders, or sweeping me and Paul down to get bees off of us before we go into the house).
We should try to find you another colony so you will have 2..There are great benefits to having more than one colony...You'll find out soon enough what they are!
I like "Sting Pics" too! My wife and I can laff at these for days!!
At any rate, Have a fun time here and learn a ton of stuff....That way, when I forget thing, I'll be able to call you, right??? :-D

your friend,
john

Hey there, Tracy Lynn,

Hello and Welcome!

I think you'll find this to be a very informative and friendly forum for learning about bees and beekeeping. I use the 'search' function a lot - more often than not I find that my question has already been discussed and I get immediate answers.

I also encourage you to get involved with a local beekeeping club. Clubs are good places to find mentors and get connected with nearby beekeepers, and they often offer classes for all levels of beekeeping. Plus, it's just plain fun to hang out with other beeks!

Hey Johnnybigfish and Indypartridge!

Thanks for the kind words.  Yea, my wife is totally into it...but whenever she sees a cockroach she shrieks like a little girl!

We just became members of both the Tampa Bay and State clubs and spent last Sat at an all day educational workshop in Orlando.  Great stuff.

TracyLynn.  Welcome to our forum, you have found the best place to spend time, learn, telling us of your experiences.  There is a wealth of information here, you just have to search around, you will find answers to almost all your questions.  If you have questions, ask, there is never a question that is considered irrelevant or dumb, all questions are important.  We were all once upon a time a new beekeeper too, we asked questions.  Enjoy your stay with us, you will meet new friends and have a place to tell your tales, and that, there will be many of.  Have a most beautiful and wonderful day, Cindi
