Bah! They swarmed.
« on: June 05, 2013, 11:22:36 pm »
I had a strong hive.  They made some swarm queen cells.  When one got capped I moved the queen to nuc.  My first cell should have had the new queen emerge Monday or Tuesday so I can only assume the new virgin queen took off with a bunch of my bees.  I think I have some other queen cells and I put fresh eggs in there about 5 days ago.  I can put more but I'm disappointed they still swarmed.

I had the same situation (queen cells) and decided to take them out and make a nuc / split with the frame containing the cells.  This is now my strongest hive!  I considered moving the queen and letting the virgin queen take over the existing hive.  Now, after reading you plight, I'm happy I did it the way I did.

The thing I love about beekeeping is that every experience leads me to more knowledge that I can invariably apply to a later situation.

Hang in there!

David
