New Beekeeper on Long Island
« on: March 02, 2007, 06:14:35 pm »
Hello, I'm a new beekeeper just getting my first packages April 15th.  I've been doing a lot of reading on Beesource, but now I'm glad to find this site.  Luck for me it's down for a few days otherwise i might not have ventured out.

Right now I have two ten frame hives with 5 mediums each and one 8 frame with 5 mediums.  I am also getting two nucs that I plan to raise my own queens.  I want to go with natural drawn comb and minimum (none) medication.

I like hearing how everyone does it, so any advice is certainly welcome.

You are getting your bees on April 15th? The IRS called they want a piece of the action.  :-D

Welcome.

Read Michael Bush's site.

I'm more afraid of getting stung by the IRS then the bees.  And people are afraid of bees  :)

I agree,
If the IRS would only sting you once then go away and die it would be great! :)

Yup, that 's me, the ugly one, and my seven year old.  I also have a five year old son.  They are excited about the bees, but a bit nervous  but they'll like it.  I still have to find a small bee suit that isn't too expensive.  2 small suits that they are going to grow out of them in two years at nearly $100 a pop is a bit stiff right now.

Maybe a hat, veil and painters overalls would work?
My boy was a little nervous until the first sting, and after that he realized it wasn't too bad,but it was on a gloveless hand and it took a lot of the fear away!

Put your mouse over the smiley and right click and go down to properties that will tell you the URL. Shorten the url to the whateveritis.com and you will see the websites main page.
