Queen Rearing Cell Bar Frame ???
« on: August 11, 2011, 04:06:43 pm »
What size is the groove on the middle of the top bar that holds the cell cups? Im thinking its probably an 1/8th wide but not sure. also how deep is it cut or does it matter? Ive built some of Robo's mating nucs in preparation to start queen rearing next year and want to have my cell cup frames done as well.

The groove on a standard top bar is too wide, about 1/8". The cell cups fall out. I made my own on the table saw and my blade cuts a 1/16" groove; make them 1/4" deep so the pegs on the cups don't bottom out. The pegs are not round but oval shaped; push them in and twist to get a tight fit.

If the groove is too wide to hold the nipple on the cell cups you could always wedge a toothpick in there to tighten it up.
