2 Nice Swarms Today, March 31, 2009
« on: March 31, 2009, 08:19:31 pm »
Caught two nice swarms today. One in Belle chasse, the first one and one in New Orleans.

The pics don't do the first one justice as they were up in a bush. They were about 4 lbs of bees or more.

The second one looks really big but was slightly smaller, perhaps 3 and a half pounds.

I was working as fast as I could on the second one but rain set in and the remaining bees clustered together on the cover and some on the magnolia tree.

They rode out the 15 minute storm, the sun came out and I was able to get all in the set up but perhaps 8-10 bees.

The first one I donated to a friend and mentor, the second I kept.

JP, nice....love to see your pictures, and that glimpse of the magnolia tree.

Nice JP.  Can hardly wait for swarms here....LOL.  Did get a lead on a possible cut out when the weather fairs.    :-D

Love those two swarm days you are getting JP. I though I had two today as well but the last one had already left just before I got there. I HATE it when that happens.

Hi JP
Very nice pictures!! The swarm moving onto the box is remarkable. Did they just put themselves inside? Great job. BTW great looking brussel sprouts too! yummmmy!

Right after I added the box, they started moving in and orienting but a mean 5 minute rainstorm set in.

I had to help them along by putting handfulls on top the frames.

I got the queen on perhaps the 3rd scoop.
