Not so new math
« on: February 03, 2015, 07:38:49 am »
2+2+2=7

Teacher: If I gave you 2 cats  and another 2 cats and another 2, how many will  you have?

Johnny: Seven,  Sir.

Teacher: No, listen  carefully... If I gave you 2 cats, and another 2  cats and another 2, how many will you  have?

Johnny: Seven,  Sir.

Teacher: Let me put it to you  differently. If I gave you 2 apples, and another  2 apples and another 2, how many would you  have?

Johnny:  Six.

Teacher: Good. Now if I gave  you 2 cats, and another 2 cats and another 2,  how many would you have?

Johnny:  Seven!!! SIR!

A very  angry Teacher: Where in the hell do  you get seven from?!?!?

A  very angry Johnny: Because,.... I've  already got a cat!!!

Democracy is 2 wolves and a lamb voting on what to have for lunch. Liberty is a well armed lamb contesting the vote.

Listen to others but make your own decisions. That way you own the results.

Here's a typical story problem:

A bathtub holds 60 gallons.  The water runs in at 6 gallons a minute.  It is running down the drain at 2 gallons a minute.  How long will it take to fill the tub?  My answer: 6 minutes and 40 seconds.  Why?  Because I'm not stupid.  I'm not going to leave the drain plug open, I'm going to close it... and I will take up 20 gallons of that space, so I only need 40 gallons...

Not the answer the teacher wants though...
