PAINT.NET (free software)

I've been looking for a full featured FREE paint shop pro (like) program, and although this falls a bit short of PSP10, it is FREE and allows you to work with existing images or do original artwork - very simple to use very good help features make this painting program a winner!!!

I have a link here for it at

http://www.download.com/Paint-NET/3000-2192_4-10507011.html?tag=lst-0-5

REQUIREMENTS: Windows 2000/XP/2003 Server, .NET Framework 2.0  - the Framework 2.0 is free and should be installed first.

I give this a 3.5 out of 5 (comparing it to others I have used, and a 4 out of 5 since it is FREE)

I would really recommend The GIMP.  This is the program I use for all my photo editing.  The interface is quite strange in the beginning (the menu is accessed with a right click in the picture), but the possibilities are great.  For that do not want to pay for photoshop, GIMP is my best choice!!  It is free and Open Source.  The Paint.NET seemed like a fine program, but although it is free, it is not Open Source (as you can not download the source code of the program).  The GIMP is available for Lnux, Windows and Mac

I removed the OPEN SOURCE part - I miss-read the description, it was Microsoft's sharing some technology with a college to create the program

I just installed GIMP - it does look a bit intimidating to get use to - obviously it is feature rich, so I'll have plenty to do with this one.

BTW - I'm starting to play with plasticine (this is for the general public) I have a few bee projects I'd like to animate myself. My camera and available software really makes this project viable, albeit time consuming. But I have lots of spare time during my slow work times when I could devote a few hundred frames at a time :)

Thanks for this GIMP - I know how it gets its name - I feel like a gimp when looking at all the windows that popped up

I use gimp also. The learning curve on it is a bit different especially if you are coming from Paint Shop Pro. Once I learned how to use it though I found it very nice. It doesn't have all the features of Adobe photoshop, but it a very functional program.

I tried to download Gimp, took a while, I am still dial up in the country, but it didn't work. It said it could not associate it with another program to open it.
Do you have any suggestions?

Thanks,
Craig

I beileve there are two types of downloads. The windows version also requires a program known as gtk to be downloaded seperatly. I will check later when I get home to be sure.
