Yes that would not work as you want the mites to fall down below the bottom board and not be able to get back up into the hive.

for a small nuc you only need one pack
If your one pack is 50 grams it is an overdose!
I would suggest a 1/4 th dose for a nuc.
Think about it like medicating an animal by age or weight.
