Bees And Termites Were On Me! May 4, 2009
« on: May 05, 2009, 01:53:24 am »
The lady of the house watched these girls move in today. Had to cut the soffit section to get them out. I got there late this evening and finished up well past dark when the Formosan termites started swarming. At times it was hard to tell if bees or termites were crawling on my face and ears, both were actually, it was kinda creepy.

This morning at first light these bees were looking for their queen
Bees everywhere! I put a queen catcher atop the hive and they went right to it.

Had to take another queen and give her to them so they'd settle down. They are happy now.

Now, I need to replace the queen or give young larvae to the small colony I stole the queen from.

Or, I may do a combine. Decisions, decisions.

JP, nice....and eeew, eeew, eeew, creepy is not the only word I would use to describe that tale you told!!  Not many things bother me, but man oh man alive, having things on my face like bees and termites just is the worst thought.  I recall that swam of bees that fell on my head, never forget the feeling of so many little feet digging in, getting their grasp on my face, eeeks!!!  I know exactly where you're comin' from....beautiful day in this great and groovey life, health.  Cindi

Boy you certainly can describe something to the point that I can actually feel it. Love that description about them digging their feet in. Ha Ha.

Annette, some little trivia about the bees, they do have to grab on with their hind tarsi to evert their stinger.  I'm sure it only takes a second for them to grab on hard enough, they don't weigh very much, smiling.  Have that wonderful and most beautiful day, lovin', livin', and groovin', health.  Cindi
