Censorship on this forum
« on: November 08, 2012, 12:37:37 pm »
 :-X

Found some very interesting studies on the advantages of condensation in hives on another forum. Unfortunately this forum will not allow me to share the link with others on their forum. I would be curious to hear an explanation for this.

Cheers,
Drew

lots of studies and links on here.  never had a problem.  my guess would be that something with your link set off the security software...which i believe has been recently updated after we had some problems...but that's just my guess.

what i do know is that you will certainly raise some hackles by jumping to the conclusion that just because you want to post something, and it doesn't post, there is censorship.  i'm sure you didn't mean it that way........

Kathy,
I've calmed down a little now, the intense and immediate outrage I felt when I believed §¤«£¿æ.com was censored from my post surprised even me, might have led me to jump the gun, but I posted the same thing on other forums no problem. I am better w/ B's than with computers so if it is my mistake I apologize most profusely.
Cheers,
Drew

There have been some very strident and forceful people who have had references to their web sites banned.  That is not to say that those people don't have something useful to say, but simply that they did not comply with the rules here on how to say it and after warnings were banned... The site owner requires a certain amount of common courtesy from the members.

If you find something like that, they are real rubbish.  I have seen some and they are mere pan cake.

Mike,
I believe I have had discussions with some of the people you describe, and I agree wholeheartedly with your sentiment. But there are many other people on besides the owners and to block all references to the whole site because of the behavior of a few I think is doing the members here a disservice. There is much of value to be found there and some very good people. Can't the specific individuals be banned without a ban on references to the whole site ? I hope you guys can work it out because I believe we are all chasing the same goal, save the bee's.

Cheers,
Drew

One of the owners there was behind the whole thing so any reference to their site will not be posted here. Ever!

Buzz,
I have no idea what, "the whole thing", refers to but apparently it hit a nerve. Your site, your rules, but I hope you will reconsider in the future. The owner may be a tool but there is good info. and people there.

Drew

The attacks laid upon members in good standing in this forum will never be forgotten. We would rather have fewer members that treat other with respect than to subject them to the verbal abuse that crowd laid out. No sense begging and pleading,it aint gonna happen.
Not my site,I'm just a mod here(proudly so,I may say) but the rules John laid out have kept the peace here for the most part. When people do not like the rules they have always had the option to leave. But some would rather have teted the limits and found their way out the door.

I don't understand why all references to the site should be blocked instead of the specific individuals but its none of my business. As an American I guess censorship in any form just doesn't sit right with me.

It's not censorship, Maryland Beekeeper.  If you were to come into my house talking trash you would soon find yourself outside and you would be leaving my property for fear of your life.  You would also understand never to set foot back on my property for fear of your bodily functions working for the last time.  In this situation I would have the option of rolling over and letting you run over me or I would have the option of standing my ground...as the owner of the house those would be my rights and it would be my decision to make.  You can do what you want to at your house and on your property but hopefully if someone comes in badmouthing and trashing you and your family you will stand your ground and defend your family...but, you might roll over like a possum, I dunno.  :?

This is John's house and he's not a possum.

Hi Drew-

Sometimes my own words have been taken as confrontational or at least challenging (to 'some' anyway) and gottn me into trouble on this site and several others I visit.

Not exactly certain which forum you have been referring to but I was banned quite a while ago from a particular beekeeping site for considerably less than what I've said or whom I've challenged on this site.

However, that doesn't stop me from looking when I'm seeking answers and it shouldn't stop anyone else either.  The same site was accused by some members of peeking into their 'personal msg' link, not sure what all happened w/ that.

Perhaps my own personal issue w/ the other site is that the owners are way to protective of certain 'experts' and pretty much ignore those they don't know whenever a debate opens up, at least it was my experience.  Beekeeping Credibility seems to be directly connected to the number of member posts which is ridicules IMO (it happens here too but not as much).

I know a couple old Beeks in Canada who still don't have a TV, much less a computer.  I know one w/ over 40 years keeping bees who just got one and have to wonder how he'd be treated as a "new" bee.

Although it DOES sometimes happen here as well, its not a recurring theme.  I still like Beemaster best and refuse to grovel to the other one for readmission  Like I said, I can still visit, just can't talk to anyone and that leaves me more time to talk HERE!

All that said;  While I've experienced a few ...ah... problems on this site w/ a few other members, the owners and mods are much more tolerant and seem to understand that words typed into a computer often don't always come out the way the poster intended  ;).

Well, you're one up on me 'cause you now know more than I do about the situation. :)  I would imagine no one took much offense at your words but are glad you are now aware of what happened.  Beemaster is a smoothly run discussion forum and about as fair of forum moderation as I've seen on a forum (honey bee or other subject).  I've never in my experience here seen a moderator direct sarcastic remarks/jabs at a newbee as has happened to me in other forums...a good group of folks here. :)

Take care,
Ed

Here is to Buzzbee!

T-Beek, I do not think it is the BS website being mentioned. I think it is the BB website.

If it was anything like I experience all the time, from that group, I applaud banning them (links) completely from the site. David, Bernard, and the whole group constantly attack anyone not sipping the koolaid they offer. Anyone with a langstroth is labeled as nothing more than a "money-honey" enemy of the environment. Instead of promoting their ideology, they denigrate, attack, and promote only that is what is promoted and seen through their colored glasses. And for so-called profressionals, the attacks are vile and vindictive.

I can tell everytime some new koolaid drinking member of that forum stumbles upon my website. They cry foul, garner support from other groupies, and I am bombarded with hate mail. Like other people can not have opposing opinions.

It goes way beyond debate or expressing opposing viewpoints. For them, it comes down to outright attacking others not in the same box that they have placed themselves. A real shame.

Heres my two cents ... this coming from a first year beek ... it took me a couple of years before I jumped into beekeeping this summer.  The main reason (other than the fear of being totally overwhelmed by so many bees) was the lack of information in general, the lack of "local" information and the abundance of maybe too much or misinformation.  I, by far, enjoy this forum and have picked up so much information and great advice!  I also look at a couple of other forum sites too. Although this forum doesn't neccessarily give me the information I need at times, its really only because our locations might dictate a different approach ... what it does give me is another opinion as to how others might deal with similar problems.  Its like putting a puzzle together ... one is constantly trying different pieces until the one works.  I would be lost without such a valuable resource this forum and others offers ... the world of beekeeping is certianly not governed by a strict set of rules.  I tend to take something from what everyone has to offer and little by little it has been coming together nicely.  I'm a firm believer that many of us might tend to intrefer too much with our girls .... Mother Nature by far knows how it all works for the best.  But there are times when we have to help out.  For me, the challenge has been to understand why someone might try this or that and then relate it to whats happening with my own hives.

one of the best things beemaster did was make a separate place for us to debate things other than beekeeping.  that keeps most of the conflict out of the beekeeping forums.  we might talk trash over politics, but we can be civil about beekeeping even when we disagree.   ;)
