Question for michigan beekeepers
« on: September 07, 2010, 10:17:30 pm »
Was wondering how long I could leave the supers on.  I am in Lapeer near flint.  Bottom of the thumb area.  Right now the goldenrod is blooming real good, almost forty acreas of it real close to the hives and one acrea of buckwheat that is also all in bloom.  Bees apear to be bringing large amounts of pollen and they are drawing comb.  Just curious when I should consider pulling the supers and getting ready for winter.  I do like honey off of goldenrod!  and BuckWheat!!!

Well, I'm MI, but I usually have my supers pulled by mid august, but I don't get much of a fall flow.  If they are still pulling comb, then I'd leave them on till about the point where they seem to stop drawing comb.  Keep a close eye on them.  You can always leave an extra super on them if they don't seem to have enough down below.

Thanks Rick,  You don't have a lot of goldenrod over on the west side?    They really seam to be kicking but right now over here?
