The girls just continue to amaze...

Last week I was impressed when the girls from my Bud5 cutout started hauling the rubber bands I had used to secure the comb in the frames out of the front entrance.



I thought that was pretty darn impressive.  However, today....I get in from work and notice something in the entrance of my swarm trap that I had caught a swarm in, and hadn't even opened up yet.  Had to take a double take and couldn't believe it.  They were hauling out my swarm lure, a plastic pipette that contained lemongrass oil.  It was attached to the top of a frame on the back wall of the box.  They had it about half way out the front entrance.  :laugh:  I gave the girls a hand and finished clearing it for them.

I hear you!  A guy in our local bee club uses the end of a q-tip with lemongrass oil on it in his swarm traps.  He said when he checks his traps, he doesn't even have to look for bees, he simple looks on the ground and if he sees the q-tip on the ground, he knows bees have moved in his box and they're hauled out the q-tip.  Even knowing that....I was pretty impressed that they had gotten a pipette that far!  :)

They are just some impressive little girls.

It amazes me how quickly the clean out the hive. When I put them in the hive there was about 1/2 inch of dead bees from the pkg that went in with them and 4 days later no dead bee in the hive at all.

I could never figure out how they get those oversize rubber bands out of the hive.
You know the ones that you end up using after all the skinny ones are gone.
Must take fifty bees to drag one of those suckers out.
I wonder what it's like when they chew through one. How many dead? :imsorry:

...about that time an alarm goes off and Drone Security arrives to calm the ladies down only to find themselves being booted off the front porch by those same ladies...but, at least the ladies are working together again.  Tsk...tsk...the life of a drone.<sigh>
