Title: Hello From PA
Post by: S.Rummings on November 29, 2012, 11:53:41 pm
Hi!

My name is Scott and I just received my shipment of supplies to start assembling for this spring. I will be starting 3 new hives in Houtzdale, PA. I plan on starting 2 packages and 1 nuc just to see the 1st year comparison. Here to learn all I can so if all goes well I can expand in my 2nd year.

Scott:

Welcome to the forum.  I started beekeeping this year with one package and one nuc.  I think you are smart to have nucs and packages.  I learned a lot from being able to compare and contrast the nuc and the package, especially since the nuc produced two more queens (one a supercedure and one to expand my apiary) and the package didn't make it past the middle of November.

Scott,
Welcome to beekeeping.

Check out the PennApic site. It is the home to the Pa. Backyard Beekeepers Association. Maybe something that might interest you.

Thanks, I checked out that site and it looks like a good group.  I wish I lived a little closer so I could attend some of the events. Even with the distance involved it looks like a group I will join at some point in the future.

Living where I do, you get used to driving about an hour for just about anything.

Sounds like a good plan.  Those darn bees are pretty good at throwing monkey wrenches though, so beware.  :-D
