Fire Department Helps Us to Capture a Swarm
« on: May 29, 2011, 03:22:16 pm »
Hi Dear People,

Well what a day it was yesterday. Swarm call and homeowner said they were 15-18 feet up the tree. NOT!! How about 40 feet up the tree?? Joanne, Shawna and I tried to figure out what the heck to do, and Joanne (new member of this forum) thought of involving the fire department. We went down to the fire department and Shawna told them we capture swarms for the 4H club to teach the kids about  beekeeping. Well the fire captain asked us "Are they a nuisance" (wink! wink!) and we answered, "Yes they are a nuisance" (snicker, snicker) Well they came out and even played with several of the neighborhood kids showing them a good time.

Fire truck arrives.

Little neighborhood boy playing in the fire truck. He got dressed up in his firemans outfit for the occasion.

Shawna, brave soul, getting prepared to climb that tall ladder. She climbed that ladder all alone. Video to follow and you will see her climbing.

And what a tall ladder this is

How the heck did the home owner think this was 15 feet up!!

You can see that this was a good size swarm. Shawna removes the swarm

Using the copy paper box - the JP way!!

Happy Beekeepers!!

Video to follow, Joanne is working on getting it onto UTube.

I never had so much fun in my life.

Enjoy
Annette

Annette, can't wait for the video!

Could have sworn some Mardi Gras beads were involved in getting the fire truck over there!  :-D

Funny you should say that JP because we had a couple of men beekeepers with us and we sent them home. Told them it would be better if only the girls went to the fire department. Well it worked :-D :-D

What a great field trip! (Peggy and I call our removals "field trips" or "adventures" instead of work :)"

Looking forward to the video!

Scott

Hey, wait a sec...have you done an initiation video yet? :-D
"In the first place, we should insist that if the immigrant who comes here in good faith becomes an American and assimilates himself to us, he shall be treated on an exact equality with everyone else, for it is an outrage to discriminate against any such man because of creed, or birthplace, or origin. But this is predicated upon the person's becoming in every facet an American, and nothing but an American...There can be no divided allegiance here. Any man who says he is an American, but something else also, isn't an American at all. We have room for but one flag, the American flag...We have room for but one language here, and that is the English language...And we have room for but one sole loyalty and that is a loyalty to the American people."

This video would be put on by Joanne the newest member. Haven't informed her yet about the initiation video. Guess I should get my act together and tell her.

Nice maneuver there, Annette. Good PR for the bees, a nice swarm hived, and an education for the whole neighborhood and the fire dept.
That's what I call a triple successful swarm catch.
Good job.

Ain't it Cool! I love how so many people are fascinated and attracted to bees.  I am proud to be a member here where so many great examples of great people facilitate the interaction of people and bees. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks ladies, way to use your feminin charms.

I'm not going to show this one to my wife though, she likes firefighters to much and it will give her ideas.  :-X

Thanks to G3Farms for posting the video.  I managed to create a YouTube account and get it working there last night,
but I was too tired to figure out how to put it on the bee forum so I went to bed.  Now I don't have to cheat!!  I was
going to sneak in the video post before doing my initiation video, (that is in the works)!

Yes, that was Annette saying "shake it baby, shake it".  I did see one of the firefighters starting to dance!!

Lots of fun,

Joanne

That's waaaay too high for me. I would have given my suit and box to one of the firefighters! Good job with that nice swarm!
