Dribling oxalic syrup

Danno asked, how oxalic spread onto bees in treament. That is a good question.
Spay it or put into seems like advice says.

ANSWER
I has been researched that when you give an even amout of stuff to each bee filled gap, the result is best.
In 2 box hive give 5 ml in each gap. Do not separate boxes. (even if it has been said so).

In one box or smaller hive give 4 ml into each gap/seam.

Bees wake up in treatment and soon they walk around and they spread the stuff. Sugar glues the oxalix onto surface of bees and bees rub it over their body. Next day you may see small droplets in bees' wings. So, sugar makes the bees dirty and they try to clean stuff off. So they they rub it over the body.

Mites drop during next two weeks, even longer. Part of mites drop into empty cells and bees clean them out then they clean the hive.

to 3-5 hives

100 g water
100 g sugar
7,5 g oxalic acid

50 ml to 2 -box hives
40 ml to one box colony

Remembed broodless hive. You may do it in temp +5 - -3C

Couple more questions.  You say "dont separate double boxes".   Do you just hit the center seems if the cluster cant be seen from the top.   Do you do any type of a spring treatment?

It is often said that take upper box away from douple brood. But it is impossible. Mostly boxes are glued with burr. You get open with with force, but them you have thousands of bees between 2 boxes and you must put them back.

When you put syrup in seems, it will reach the bees. The cluster will expand too for disturb and they will get dirty for oxalic syrup.

Nowadays Finnish beekeepers give quite often spring treatment aften cleansing flight before the hive start brood rearing.

However, it only treatmen which can be used during winter, and then the hive is broodless.

I tried to manage with one treatment in a year (oxalic) but now, after some years, I have seen that it does not work.
Mites do often  their dirty tricks allready in August when the hive rear its winter brood.


Two treatmenst are quite necessary: formic acid or thymol in August and then oxalic in winter.

Varroa has become more dangerous than 20 years ago.
