Title: Greetings from Leyner Colorado, new to beekeeping
Post by: 2-Wheeler on June 02, 2006, 12:25:24 am
I'm a beekeeper's helper. My better half is the real beekeeper and I'm there to lift, pry and take pictures.  We have one hive this year and are just getting going.  This looks like a great resource to find answers that aren't in the books and compare notes with other beekeepers.

Every time I look at 2-wheeler's avatar I think of all that wasted space.  He's putting his bottom board where my easiest working level is.  But then I've noticed that people in wheelchairs get overlooked a lot.  You'll see what I mean when you observe someone walk up to a counter to buy something, put their items on the counter, and reach for their money totally oblivious to the customer in the wheelchair they're leaning over.

BTW 2 wheeler, welcome aboard.

You're the helper and you have to do prying and lifting?  You might was well be the person in charge. .  :-)

Welcome to the forum.

>Every time I look at 2-wheeler's avatar I think of all that wasted space.

After having to put supers on with a step ladder once, and having all the hives blow over once, I went to a four by four on the ground for a stand and my bottom board id directly on top of that.  Much shorter and easier to reach the top.  I work the bottom boxes from my Merril toolbox as a stool.  But then the skunks came and I had to go to top entrances...

hi 2-wheeler. sounds like a good wife/husband shared hobby. my wife limits her bee participation to looking at the hives and seeing if there are bees flying around. if she is nearby when i am going to open the hive she quickly leaves.
