G'day from Mid North Coast of NSW, Aust
« on: January 08, 2015, 02:24:12 am »
G'day all,
I'm currently selling my business and looking at bee keeping for part time income. I grew up in the bush and after 20 years of staring at a computer, it is time to get back out there. I've spent a few days with some commercial blokes and still keen after being stung over 30 times in my first outing. The bees knew who the new kid was, plus I probably should have had better protective wear on. Anyway, it seems my dad's farm is ideal bee country, with a mixture of tea tree, eucalypt, native wild flowers, plus lillies growing in some big dams. I posted a few questions earlier in the day about which plastic hives are best for my area, so if anyone can help, it would be much appreciated.
Thanks  Burta (the Hurta after being stung so many times on day 1)

Welcome, at least you know you can take a bee sting and not allergic to it.

Welcome to Beemaster Burta.
Wow, 30 stings on your first day . I do not think I have ever been stung that many times in a year in my entire life and I depend on the stings to keep from having problems with my left shoulder.

I had a few areas swell a bit. One got me right between my eyes as I took my veil off getting into the truck (I think he was waiting for me), so my wife thought I'd been beaten up. The main thing was that I got really tired & felt zapped that night & even the next day. I've since had a few more days with the pro's, wearing much more appropriate clothing & enjoyed the experience. I've now got 2 hives going & have ordered more & feel quite hooked. Thanks for the welcomes, I look forward to learning more, it is very interesting stuff.
Cheers  Burta
