How much do you or would you charge to maintain someone else's hive(s)?
Say per hour.
Thanks
Jack

I dont think that question can be answered easily. At the least minimum wage which if I remember right when I was getting it it was about 1.75 per hour. just kidding! I think it about 7.50 now. Before I would quote anyone a price I would have to know what "maintaining" entails. How often do they expect you to be there and how far is it to drive there. I have one friend that I help for free but its on my schedule. I go through his bee's about once a month or less when I'm in the area. I treat them and if and when he looses one I replace it. He pays for the treatments, new bee's and new queens. I super and remove honey. I would think a set price would make more sense than a dollar per hour. Maybe 1/2 the harvest. I did a mite treatments for another guys 200 colonies a couple of springs ago while he was out of state and he gave me 20 splits w/ new queens for my time

Danno, why does your friend have bees if you're doing all of the work, (having all of the fun).
I think looking in the hives and working with the bees is the best part of beekeeping.

Because he is a old friend and has done his fair share of favors for me. He owns a large environmental company and travels alot. He used to be my boss back in the day. He has a great stainless fab shop at the company that I get to use when needed. I built my brewery there. I "have all the fun" with my bee's

That's great! It works out for both of you. Larry
