Two Removals---May 4, 2010
« on: May 05, 2010, 08:24:38 am »
First one was between the floor joists. Young colony. Pulled the carpet back in a very large room, cut the plywood floor over the joists, removed the bees, and put the floor back in place, carpet back in place.

When I was done, people went back to watching TV.

2nd one was in a soffit about 15' up. The gaps between the brick and vinyl are very small, forcing the bees to enter and exit through very small openings, thus spreading them out a good 5-6' to the left and right of where the colony was located.

It appeared there was more than one colony by how they were so spread out entering and exiting where the hive was located. I thought perhaps as many as three.

Yet another find job.  Wish I could get as lucky.  All of the cutouts I had lined up failed to make it through the nasty winter we had here.  It was just too cold for too long and they couldn't break the cluster to feed.  What a loss.

My first 4-5 I removed this season were barely living on a prayer. They had no stores and were literally surviving off of what they were bringing in. Global warming right!  :-D

Nice, newly established colonies. Wish I could find a few like that. Mine this year have been very old, multi-year colonies that took hours to untangle. Hopefully, as the season advances, I'll get a couple new ones. As always, Good Job, JP.

I am simply staggerd at the volume of swarms you manage to collect ! There must be alot of wild colonies in Louisianna ?

Obviously the season is that much longer than in the UK, so one presumes the swarming season also lasts longer too ?

A cut out I did here 3 weeks ago is doing well, but we are in dire need of better weather to help them build up.

Best wishes from the UK on our General Election day !!

Another great group of pictures.
It looks as if the swarms and removals keep you very busy.
Thanks for sharing them with us!
