Found some interresting information at News in Science (http://www.abc.net.au/science/news/default.htm) about the bees surviving the asteroid impact in the age of the dinosaurs.
Tropical honeybees and other warm-loving insects are continuing to challenge the idea that a "nuclear winter" enshrouded the Earth for years after the meteorite impact that killed the dinosaurs 65 million years ago.
