Boy, that would a a case I'd bet on any day,  and unfortunately I wouldn't be putting my money on your side.  What exactly is the IP and what are the claims?   Just cause you have a neat idea doesn't make it patentable.  So although you can  claim copywrite on this post (which I believe is inherent with a claim anyway),  it does nothing to stop anyone from building/selling/marketing such a devise.  it may stop them from patenting it, but I question the patentability anyway.

Well Jordan, I think your out of luck. If all goes well, I think I have a supplier that would make this observation hive, with more than 100% profit, and still sell it to me for around $100  :-D

My parents call me there little entrapanuer. I will see how much i can make them for and maybe post one on EBAY and see how high it gets and then i would figure out a base price.

By the way mrilovetheants i would take one of those ob hives to so you better start on building it and if you did not see there is swinging doors on it so you would have to figure that in.

That's a good attitude and way to live.   I often wonder how some people sleep at night after taking advantages of others.   Trust me,  patents aren't meant to protect the little guy anymore,  they are more used for bargaining chips between big business.  It is like anything else,  with enough money and lawyers, you can do whatever you want.   On the flip side, it also prevents extortion as well,  like the guy/company that went after blackberry claiming patent infringement.

We where the first company to ever hit 4000 patents in a single year last year,  and it was our 16 consectutive year leading the US in patents.  Needless to say, research is a big part of our company and licensing technologies brings in a fair share of revenue.

I work for IBM in mainframe hardware development. We design and build the high integrity/availability/security systems used for banking/airlines/retail/etc..

Anyway I was browsing ebay this morning and found a large 4 frame (i think) Ob Hive for like 175.  Way more reasonable but without the lazy susan effect.

If my recollection is accurate, Frantz on this site sells some homemade OB. They also are auctioned off frequently at beekeeper auctions at clubs. About 3 or 4 a year become available usually. They go for between 75 and 200 depending on size, wood and vintage in some cases.

Yup,  mainframes aren't very vogue.  Being the gold standard for five 9's and working in the forefront of technolgy doesn't lead to much excitement, but it pays the bills :-P

Hey Robo, I work HP and I do proliant superdomes, also for banks and security, lol were competitors, LOL  I myself find it very exciting. I love technology, hardware and software. Just seems right.
