Haven't posted pics in a while so here are some various pics of a few cut-outs, a swarm, a hive in a squirrel box, a few pics of my fix it guy and his helper and scaffolding (LSU colors!!!) and the last pics are of a vacant house since Katrina, let me explain this one.

There are literally thousands of bees on the floor of this house next to sliding glass doors and a small handful of bees at the top of the doors building a small section of comb, as well as a small bit of abandoned comb on the outside of the door with some waxmoth evidence.

When I walked outside in the pool area there were bullfrogs living in the pool, which is weird because this is in the city, now there were bees zinging back and forth everywhere through an outer door entrance sans the door, the bees were literally entering the house through the doorway but most were not going to the glass doors they were going to the back of the house where I spotted the parent colony.

As far as I can piece together, the parent colony must have swarmed and the bees in their confusion to fly out into the wild blue yonder wound up at the glass doors, the poor things never really had a chance. (They were queenless), the ones at the glass doors.

When bees get into a building they always wind up at a window or a light source and in their confusion, succumb, while trying to fly out, not understanding that windows are barriers and thus they expire, sad but true.

Here are the pics, and the dog is my rat terrier Chooch, who is undoubtedly "the king!" http://picasaweb.google.com/pyxicephalus/July152008

Awesome pics I was wondering where you had been and what you were up to
The squirrel house probably couldn't ask for an easier removal than that one huh?
Glad to see the pics again

Squirrel houses and purple martin houses are a big hit with swarms, yes you can't find an easier removal, but they can only accomodate a small number of bees, that's the only drawback, I like huge swarms myself.

JP - Great pix! Next thing I learn will be to post to the Picasa web or another.  I've had cut-outs this year from in-ground water meter boxes and a speaker box.  And a huge rent house cut out - made me break nervous - drywall and plywood sheathing 8' high...  My baker scaffolding you'd love - I had my kids wrap painters tape all over the yellow scaffold and spray paint it purple, remove the tape and... and wala.. LSU Baker scaffolding - I then used our electric cattle brand to mark all of the scaffold boards.
   Thanks for pix - Gena
