I'm a writer and a business owner. I'm also gearing up for figure competition.
I'm Vegan, the main reason for getting bees is well... I really do love them and have always been fascinated by them, even as a child. Also, I'm really concerned with the decline so want to do my part (although small) to help out. I don't have honey bees yet, but looking forward to getting them next Spring, until then I'll keep educating myself, and hopefully network with more beekeeping folks in my area and online too.

Thanks for the info on Michael Bush, I've bookmarked the site. I've really enjoy the information here, I've learned a lot simply by reading posts, saves me from asking some of my questions.
Locally I'm hoping to eventually visit a few beekeepers homes, been a while since I've been around anyone with bees. I did join a beekeeping club in Maryland, so looking forward to attending some of the meetings.

-
Currently supervisor for NYS DOT. Supervising highway maintenance and snow removal. Previously dairy farmer, logging contractor and residential excavation contractor.

Retired, but plenty busy. I keep hearing and reading that I may be a full time "terriost". I am a life NRA member, go to church, fear God, and love America, and I'm also a vet.
I shoot, reload, am a Ham radio operator, do a little farming, and now, I am in love with my bees. My brother gave me 10 hives, and I'm learning fast, have also learned I have a lot of learning to do.
I retired as a supervisior for a big power complex at a huge paper mill. We took care of the boilers, all steam systems, air systems, water systems, and power generation on site.
I am truly loving my bees, hard to stay away from them at times. I am constantly studying, and doing my best to learn all I can. We just formed a bee club here, had our first meeting, and I'm excited about this.
Caught my first swarms, never got stung, was totally unprepared, no protection at all, but I asked the Good Lord to help this pore ole dumb country boy and, as usual, He answers sincere prayers, and He knew good and well I was gonna need all the help I could get. Needless to say, that's all the help I needed.
I have so much to learn, usually learn the hard way, but I have bought my equipment that I need so far.
Well, done wrote a book.

I was a claims adjuster for 7 years before I fired the boss and started Windshield Wizards. Now I repair chips, cracks and scratches in glass. I also bought a pinstriping company about 10 years ago and have striped about 50,000 cars--everything from Aston Martins to Hyundais. I also play lead guitar, harmonica and sing in a classic rock band-- "Iron Outlaw". You can see some clips of my band on youtube. (Plug in "kedgel" in the search field.) I'm from TN, so I have been known to pick a little bluegrass, too. In fact, I'm playing a benefit next week doing some "pickin' & grinnin'" :-D

For all of you that are cops-
My Alma mater also hosted a police academy. My two roommates were in that program. At dinner they talked about what evidence could be found on a dead body & having to be exposed to mace. A third roommate, the guy taking the fireman program, talked about having to find his way out of a cargo container filled with smoke but without his mask. The most I could ever offer was the difference between Pitch & Slash pine! You guys, & gals, Rock. Thanks for what you do.

Great question - loving the variety of vocations!
I'm actually getting paid to learn beekeeping! In addition to being a bit of a ranch hand.
Because our production facility is still in northern California I am not yet getting my hands into making mead but soon will be learning that too! Life takes some funny turns! Last year I was remodeling a guy's house, now I'm working for him growing his 12 year old mead business.
Fun stuff!
-
You get paid to make mead? Nice job! would love to sample some and I would do it for free!! Never have had any mead YET!

I'm retarded, ER, I mean retired, or is it both. With all these high class vocations, this lowly sewing machine mechanic feels kinda left out. Especially when I quit school in the ninth grade.
I guess being president of a C chapter corp., managing partner of an LLP, managing partner of an LLC, and president of an S chapter Corp., all at the same time, may make up for it a bit.
The company I founded and ran until retirement.

And I cant wait until I'm like one of you who have been doing this for years.

Fixing other peoples mistakes for 28 years in waterproofing and any painting related thing you can dream up. Getting too old for that so focused on these now. Mobile music recording, surveillance systems, playing bass and or harmonica in rock and blues bands and keeping ahead of the new presidents desire to destroy my way of life so other do nothings can feed off of my hard work. ;)
The bees moved into the house and we kept them. I spend all of my other time keeping the bee's environment as pest free as possible so they can live happily ever after. Oh yeah and maybe I can legitimately get some honey from them while leaving enough for them to not be fed artificially in the oh so cold Florida winter.
