Title: hogan trapout boxes & small hive beetles
Post by: rober on August 05, 2013, 11:19:43 am
i just finished a hogan trapout in a house & have another in progress. when the population the the finished trapot dwindled  ( this was a very strong hive ) the beetle population inside the house exploded to the point of beetles & larva were coming into the house in droves. we opened the wall & found an old gas fireplace. the combs were 5' tall & were loaded with honey. is this to be expected in these situations? the trapout in progress should see a drop in population soon since the queen was in the last batch of bees that i removed.

Rober, All I know is that SHB have the ability to sense distress and weakness in colonies. They are opportunistic parasites.
