When I first signed on both of them greeted me and Brian talked with me some about building slatted racks...then both of them went silent.  I'm thinking Brian was having some health issues?  Cindi, I don't know about but I do miss her flowery comments. :)

Yep, I miss both of them for their very 'pleasant' commentaries on many subjects, not just beekeeping.

Brian was especially informative and helpful.  In reviewing several of their old posts (reviewing archives remains one of my favorite pastimes), they both also suffered considerable abuse from some forum posters here at BeeMaster.  I guess we shouldn't blame them for leaving as many others have done over the years (the archives are unfortunately filled with them  :(

That said; during my own forced hiatus  ;) I found several other beekeeping forums out there, none as active, informative (or entertaining) as BeeMaster though.

I stayed in touch with Cindi after she moved by email.   After a while that also stopped.   I dont ever remember anyone being abusive to either of them.

i stayed in touch with cindi for a bit also.  then she just kind of quit talking.

as for brian and any abuse, he was a pretty crusty fellow  :-D  i don't remember him taking or giving abuse, but that doesn't mean that he agreed with everyone.  if disagreement = abuse, we have gotten pretty twitchy.

In just the short time I had to get to know them I would think that if someone abused them on the forum that the abuser would have been quickly put in his/her place by John or a moderator.  I can't see the forum not coming to their defense.  And, yes, kathyp, Brian didn't seem to me to be someone that would simply roll over if things got tough...after all, wasn't he working his bees out of a wheelchair?...that's dedicated *and* TOUGH! :)  As for Cindi, I don't think there was a smidgen of arguing, anger, spiteful, or anything negative in her DNA.  They are both just plain good folks...we need more of'em.

Brian had a host of health issues. I noticed some of his other pages he had he has not been active on.I wish the best for him. Brian was not thin skinned and could hold up with the best of em.
As for Cindi i know she maintained a very busy home life and she and the extended family made the move to Canada.I know from chatting with Cindi in ventrilo a couple times that her family comes first before anything else. They are both greatly missed by many of us here.

My guess with Cindi is that her time is being consumed with family. I dearly miss her, her posts and particularly her sign offs. She is such a sweet and kind spirited woman but that lil girl could be tough when she wanted to, like when she climbed that tree to catch a swarm, not to mention she and her husband were Harley riders. Man, she was a real trouper! If you had the chance to get to know her then you are missing a great friend.

I sent Brian a couple of PMs in the last year or so and was sure hoping to hear back from him. I sure hope he is okay he knew a heck of a lot about bees and other things. Despite his injuries which if I recall correctly occurred in the line of duty, he stayed pretty active albeit it seemed like a real struggle at times as he seemed to be in constant pain.

I really miss both of them badly and sure hope and pray they are okay.

Ah, my forum friends, you all maka me laffa!!  I had to sign in under a different user name (CynthiaM) cause I couldn't sign in with my old Cindi (with an "i" name, probably password got lost too or something).  So honestly, here I am.  Check out the introduction, as I have reintroduced myself.  If I can ever figure out how to log in with Cindi again, I shall do that thing...

I have been checking out a few posts, and when I saw the one about Brian D. Bray, I thought I would take a peek and looky what I found.  A bunch of people talking about me, smiling that big secret smile.  It is nice to know that I have been missed, hugs...

Now back to Brian (I have to remember that it is not always about me, me, me  ).  Brian.  What has Brian been up to?   Does anyone keep touch with him outside of Beemaster here?  I know some were very close to him, so what's up.  I know he had lots of health concerns, and he was in so much pain so much.  Please hope that he is well and that he too, is just busy with other things in his life.  Someone wanna take the plunge and send an email and ask him to remember us and come for a visit?  Anyone???

Ya, just been busy with our new life, of almost 3 years (moved from southwestern BC (Canada) to the north Okanagan, about 500 km north of our old home).  Buzzbee, always lived in Canada.  thought it was cute when you said in post that you thought I had moved up to Canada, that struck my giggle chain for surely  ;)

Ya, just been busy.  Hubby and I retired from being foster parents, just me and him now and our dogs.  We live on our oldest Daughter and Husband's farm.  I am chicken lady now, smiling.  The bees are basically on the back burner until this spring.  Got a good enough handle on what I need to learn about chickens, so can re-focus on the bees.  I don't do anything small, and now am able to split myself up a little more.  Getting back to familiarity with bees and can keep on keepin' on with heritage chicken breeding.  Raise buff orpington and cochins (in blue, black and splash).  got some very nice lines I have improved on very much, and these are honkin' lovely birds.  Has taken a while, and so much more work yet to do with bettering the breeds to type, but will one day get there.  Working on cochins with yellow shanks and legs. That is my biggest genetic thing these days with that breed.

Ya, just farming, food, gardens, dogs, chickens.  Daughter has 5 horses on this property.  Could ride my brains out if I wanted to, but that was something that I have left in the past too.  That was for the years, oh so many years ago, when I wore a younger woman's clothes.  Like when I was a kid.  Never got the love of riding back after I had my children.  But my girls.  Oh my girls.  At 43 and 38, they are in full swing with what they want to do with horses.  That is trail riding, and eventing.  Yep. Eventing.  Oldest gal and her Husband travel all the time with horses in tow, to horsey events.  I think they are nuts, but oh well, they think me nuts too.

So ya, should not have taken over this thread that was about Brian, but just had to console you all, hee, hee.  So you don't worry.  There is nothing wrong with me.  I have not been offended by anyone's comments to me here (and actually can't think of anytime that I was offended), so not sure what was meant here by that, but that is OK too.  All is well.  Just a busy girl, been hanging out more on chicken forums as I have needed to study and research and learn and live chickens....hoping this year, as I said to begin to live bees and chickens too.  Have that beautiful day, full of health, love and friends, Cindi

i think about you often when i come here and have wondered what you were up to.  i am so glad to hear that you are happy with your retirement and new life!!  also glad to hear that you are doing chickens.  i started back with them this year and now i know to pick your brain when i need info!  i know that you always learn as much as you can about anything you try.

welcome back.  please don't be a stranger even if it's only to say HI!   :-D

OMG, reading this post did my heart good. So glad to read that Cindi is fine. God Bless you Cindi. I have been away so long myselp and I love that you are ok, and loved seeing so many concerned.
My prayers go out to Brian as well. I hope that things are ok. Just got back on yesterday as things are settling here in NJ. I PM'd Brain but have not heard back. Doesn't sound like I will. Thank goodness prayers don't need an answer from the one you send them too..

Welcome back Cindi! I too have been missing your cheerful posts...like a breath of air.

If Brian hooked up with the Mormons as his writings seem to suggest they will separate themselves from the socializing with  other groups of people. We found out yesterday that my mom's brother passed away 6 months back with no contact from his daughter who are big time Mormons. My uncle had to call numerous times until she finally answered and told him of his passing. (True Christianity is a separation of a sinful life and not of people!)

You don't have to worry about Brian and the "Mormons", we got him a long, long time ago so his current state is not due to the "Mandatory" isolation that you are fearful of. The isolation usually comes from friends and family who believe crazy stuff like that and separate themselves from us crazy "Mormons".
Please don't hesitate to ask and I will be happy to clear up any ?'s that you might have about anything. Bees or Mormons...

Both as it so happens are very similar, not so easy to understand to the casual passer by and feared by most due to their lack understanding, however once one puts in the time and efforts the rewards can be incredible.. hahaha.. Wow, I just came up with that on my own.. Who says revelation is dead...

Sounds similar to the current "assault weapon" fiasco :-)

Funny, that at the time, no one told me that my 22lr that I got as a kid was an assault weapon.    For all these years I just thought it was for plinking and squirrels.  :?

Good to hear from you Cindi and glad you're doing well.  Take care of those chickens...do you have an indoor yard for them in the winter?  Moisture issues?   Have you ever read Woods "Fresh-Air Poultry Houses"?  It's an interesting  read.

I hear ya, Robo, on the plinking.   Time changes lots of things...sometimes the changes are good...sometimes bad.  That 22lr when you were a kid was seen as a plinking gun or something to hunt small game with...lots of kids learned to shoot with them...nobody thought anything ominous about them.  Today some people scream that it is a weapon of mass destruction or something...and some people would actually use it as such.  What has changed?...the gun is the same gun as it was so many years ago...maybe a little more polished and worn...but it still operates the same.  The only thing that has changed in the equation are the people.

Times have certainly changed.  My dad and his brother, because my grandpa was an engineer, got to ride the train for free, so they would climb on the train with their shotguns draped over their arms and ride up to Kansas and hunt pheasants and quail, and then hop back on the train with dead birds hanging all over them and shotguns on their arms again and ride home.  No one was the least bit worried.

When I was a kid, we inherited an old Japanese Arisaka that my Grandpa brought back as a war trophy.  He broke off the firing pin and gave it to my dad to play with when he was a kid and when we came along we inherited it.  I do remember once an adult looking worried when the saw us hauling it around the yard and playing with it (it was much taller than me).  We told them the firing pin was broken off and they smiled and waved and moved on down the sidewalk.

Either of these two perfectly normal situations would involve a SWAT team today...

When I wanted a BB gun as a kid, my dad wouldn't let me have one because they were too dangerous and too quiet.  My first gun was a .410.  Most kids first gun was a .22.  I can't remember many of my friends who didn't have one.  By the time they were 12 they had a .30-06 or equivelant...

My first gun was a Stevens single shot .210 from Sears Roebuck and Company.  I was nine years old that Christmas.  Many a squirrel and quail fell to that shotgun.  My dad has several .22 rifles and he would let me use a Remington bolt action rifle in that caliber.  We were raised around guns and until I graduated from high school I only knew of two shooting accidents.  One was fatal.  Most of us farm and ranch kids had daily chores, and we grew into responsibility sooner than todays video game children.

Hi Sharon

So nice to hear from you. I feel badly because the beautiful dahlias you sent me, didn't make it in storage.

Happy to have you back as well. I don't post as much as I used to because life has gotten so hectic and I need to stay focused on other things. But I check in and read all the posts and try to stay up on things.

It has been a bad year. I am down to 1 bee hive right now. Lost a couple this winter.

Take care
annette
