A newbie from PA

My father-in-law had an observation hive for his sciece class years ago when he was a teacher, So I bought lots of oak and built him an observation hive . The only local thing to buy to finish it is tempered 1/4 inch glass for the sides. I am hoping it will provide countless hours of fun for him, and my 2 year old son.

The hive is a 3 frame.

It looks like I am going to buy a Regular Hive to, To make things easier

Having a second (or more) hive will make things easier. You can compare things, or just have the second hive to draw brood from if needed.

Not only will it help, but once you get hooked, you REALLY want more. They're addictive. :)

Good going.    having a standard hive is a good idea.  the popuplation of an observation hive can explode in a few weeks,  it's good to have a spot for the bees to go - adding them to a standard hive is a good place and gives that hive a little boost.

Me:  Hi.  My screename is leominsterbeeman.  And I
am addicted to beekeeping.

You: Hi, Leo. Welcome to BA - Beekeepers Anonymous.

Me:  It all stated innocently enough  I bought a hive, then the next year I expanded and had 2 more.  I couldn't get enough.  I had to try new hive types - observation hives, I had to make little hives, called nucs.  Now I have 7.

I search the internet night and day for bee, beekeeping, honey and beeswax.    I come to the beemaster site atleast 3 times a day.     I surrond myself with bee themed items.  My screensaver is bees and my desktop background has bees on it.

People ask me about my bees before they ask about my children.
