Bees can't afford the tax bracket
« on: September 12, 2008, 01:40:42 pm »
I had a home in Palm Beach that had a hive that had been there for a while. They couldn't afford the property taxes.

Man, was that plaster you had to cut through or stucco, looks like stucco. Just curious, what was the exterior made of?

It was a thick stucco with a heavy gauge wire mesh. That is very common in SoFla.

I've seen you do other ones like this, so I know they are common in your area, so the interior and exterior are both stucco, plaster?

In some cases yes. What happens is they decide to enclose a patio which will be stucco on both sides. If it was originally interior you will have stucco on the outside and plaster veneer on the inside.

They couldn't afford the property taxes.

Wait, having bees in the walls increases property taxes?  I'm confused.

Palm Beach (the Island) is where all the old money lives. Some of the most expensive property out there. The property taxes are outrageous even with cap on property taxes. The joke goes that the reason the bees had to be removed is because they(the bees) couldn't afford them. Much like the government does when you fail to pay your property taxes. I guess you have to live in Sofla to get the joke. Palm Beach == Beverly Hills (just on opposite coasts).

Brendhan

Also to clarify West Palm Beach (where I live) is west of the island. It is where all the poor people live. Because we can't afford to live on the island. Not that I think I would want to. The property taxes are to high.

Our property appraiser will probably tax my hives as "additional separate structures"
if they see them.

Funny, the tile is honeycomb shaped! The bees felt right at home.
