Title: Bee Videos To Come
Post by: JP on May 23, 2012, 08:21:03 am
For anyone wondering, I've been swamped with work & been too busy & tuckered out to make videos. Been working seven days a week trying to get everything done. Videos to come when I catch a break, I promise.

Our bees are still bringing in chinese tallow, been removing colonies with fresh tallow honey.

Here's a pic of one of my huge hives in Lacombe, La: (http://i356.photobucket.com/albums/oo4/Jefroka/IMG_4441.jpg)

The one on the right I've had to add two supers within the last 8 days!

JP, not to worry buddy. Most are all trying to keep up with the bees and our real jobs. We all learn so much from your videos, it's always worth the wait. Looking like the Maxant will be getting a real workout this season. :-D

Had a real humdinger today! Saturday, I looked at one in a guy's roof section of his home in an area at the rear left that juts out from the main structure. I wanted to go in through the roof so he wanted me to come back that evening to meet with his contractor. When I went back that evening there were scouts checking out the opposite corner so today I removed two colonies from this roof area.

The larger of the two had a decent bit of tallow honey & had not been there but 3 weeks. The other one as mentioned just moved in either Saturday or Sunday. So get this folks, the larger hive had two large dead rats right underneath it. I spent several hours accessing then removing this hive all the while doing my best not to hurl. It was one of the roughest removals I hope to never duplicate! Ever!

Do you think the hive killed those rats??

I think you need to take a day off and go fishing.

P.S. That's a gigantic hive!

The hive did not kill the rats. I asked him about a potential rat problem he might have had & he mentioned he had some visiting the yard as the neighbor left cat food out 24/7 for their cats. His bug man had put bait stations out for rodent control. I just happened to find the lucky spot where they went to rest.

JP, I have been wondering where your videos have been.  I just did a removal where the girls were making a home on the inside of a septic tank.  Folks around here have the aerobic type and they have risers, well the old lid had gotten damaged and the home owner just covered it with plywood.  The ladies found a way in and BAM! home stinky home.  Good thing it did not take to long to get them out of there.

So you wound up removing them? Sounds like a fun one!  :-D

Yes sir I did. It was pretty darn easy. I just picked up the sheet of plywood and turned it over and removed one piece of comb at a time. Very nice bees too, that's somethInh I am not use to.

Really nice pics Jase!

Did you put a smear of vicks over your top lip like in Silence of the Lambs? I would have had to or wear a ventilator or something. Can't take sewage smell, that's about the worst kind of odor!  BTW, the one I did with the two dead rats I smeared lemongrass oil over my top lip & a little in my nostrils. Kind of burned a little at first but did help somewhat.
