Which frames for my NUC setup?
« on: March 09, 2009, 03:20:27 pm »
So this is my "Duh" followup to my question on freezing frames:  When I install my NUC, which frames should I have waiting for them in the bottom deep?  The NUC is gonna be five, so I need five already in there.  The frames from the old bottom box with about 1/3 honey, or fully honeyed frames from the old top box?   If I go with the frames from the old bottom box, I would then wait till those are  crowded and then put the honey-ful deep on top, right?

I would go with one or two frames of honey and pollen positioned on the outside with three empty drawn comb in the center if possible.  That you give the queen some where to lay and the nurse bees will have decent access to food.  Then once she has two of the empty frames filled with eggs and larvae move them into some 10 frame equipment.
