Noticed no activity at the hive, the nuc about 10 months old, it was very active, and then, photos to follow, thanks for any help, Ed

Ed, they are greater wax moths.
The make it look bad but just clean them off, crush them and reuse the equipment.

No need to do anything except scrape off the cocoons and scrap any badly eaten combs.
