Greetings from Elmhurst, PA
« on: October 28, 2008, 04:58:54 pm »
Hi folks, brand new here. I live in Elmhurst, PA, not too far from Scranton (but just far enough!). I'm planning on starting a couple hives in the spring and am diligently doing my reading and have been lurking in this forum and some others for a couple of months or so. Guess it was time to register.  I have lots of questions though none come to me at this time- go figure.   We have about an acre of property here in Elmhurst, the start of a small orchard- 6 trees and counting, and 26 chickens, some we started from eggs, some we purchased as chicks and some we bought as poullets.  Were getting about 8 eggs a day  and more than half our flock is too young to lay yet.  I do a lot of hunting and fishing and love running hounds.  We have a couple of foxhounds and a coonhound.  Now well have some bees.    Really interested in going the small or natural cell route from the begining, along with not treating.  Bjorn, I'll be emailing you about buying some bees for the spring if you'll have any for sale.  Seems like you do things the way I would like to do them.   Again, greetings from Elhurst, PA population 994.  Keystonepaul

Hi Paul and welcome aboard!

Yeah, you'll have lots of questions, and having gone through it all already we are all ready to answer your questions with lots and lots of different opinions and solutions!  Your challenge is to wade through them all and try to figure out which one will work best for your situation.

And a reminder to fill out your profile with your location....beekeeping is very dependent on seasons and timing, and seasons are drastically different depending on where you are.

Here in New Carlisle, IN (just west of South Bend) I took a beekeeping course in college 15 years ago.  I finally got a couple hives and package bees this spring.  One is doing well, the other has struggled.  I hope to get some advice on a couple problems I'm having and share with others as I gain more experience.

Welcome Keystonepaul, I was up in your area yesterday delivering Nextel generators due to power outages. I broke my 4 wheel drive and was stuck for a few hours until I dug myself out. It was a mess. Strange thing was that half way back to Harrisburg it was sunny and dry. Anyway welcome to the forum.

Keystonepaul.  Welcome to our forum, this can be the place where you can spend time, learn lots, tell us your stories and tales.  When you get your bees, you will enter a world full of mystery and cool things.  Stick around, we love new members.  Have a most wonderful and awesome day, Cindi
