I have 25 chicken eggs in the incubator and the first chick hatched a little while ago :) There is a fertile double yolk egg in the incubator too and on day 18 I could see movement in it when i candled it so we will see if it hatches, everything I have read says the chicks will die but I decided to incubate it anyway. I like hatching chicks no matter how many I have hatched I still get excited when they start hatching.

:) I've gotta get my coop built. Posts like this just get me off on another tangent! ;) Is your's free-ranged or penned? I'll have to have a yard for them due to "inherited" dogs. :( Ah well, congrats on some Christmas chicks! Which incubator are you using?

Thank you. In the warm months they are free ranged, but when it starts getting cold they have a BIG pen they have access to, chickens don't mind fenced yards even when they are free ranged they tend to stick to only certain parts of certain areas.
I use a Hova-bator with a fan in it and egg turner, if you want you can PM me and I will tell you the cheapest place to buy one, I don't know if I can promote a web-site openly without breaking forum rules.
I also have a vintage wood incubator that works I got that off of an auction site that I can't wait to try out!

Yep December and in MN. I know what time my chickens lay eggs so I would go out at the right times and collect the "warm" ones I did this 4-5xs a day and those are the ones I put in incubator.
This is my 3rd winter batch (my 2nd batch ALL failed do to a faulty thermometer)
I have a spare room in my house with brooders and pens where the chickens live until I sell them or they are big enough to go outside in coop
Come late Feb and early March are when people start thinking about getting chickens so the earlier I hatch them the better cuz they sell fast and people like when they don't have to wait 5-6 months to get eggs :) I also have a deal that if they get a rooster I will take it back and they can exchange it for a hen :)

My poultry resale market crashed as of late with all the immigration laws the southern states are changing. I used to order at least 2000 chicks and hatch a few hundred more my self to sale in the spring as either chicks, fryers, or the soup pot. Now Im down to about 6 with a lot cheaper feed bill :)

Goat market is gone also.

Goat market is gone also.
Both markets are still good here and growing.

I ended up with 15 chicks the double yolker never pipped. Only 7 non-hatchers/quitters.

Black australope, buff orpington, ameracauna, silver lace wynadotte, brown leg horn, barred rock, cuckoo maran, red sex link, buff brahama, and one little hen that looks like the buff brahama but no feathers on her feet she came in a mixed lot of chicks I got, she has to be some bantam of some sort.
I also have a mallard drake, blue indian runner drake and hen, kahaki hen and cayuga mix drake and hen ducks
Plus 7 quinea fowl

Buff orps...they aren't chickens, they're pigs!!! :-D

Neat. I just have four (standard) girls at the moment: a buff orp, a barred rock, a light brahma and a blue andalusian.
I am planning on raising a handful of bantams in the spring. :yippiechick:
