Yep, they have a strong union with a rather regal shop foreman.  They are working for themselves and not for "the man".  Union dues are payable in pollen and honey.  The only problem is the retirement plan.

Probably too cold to come out and continue to forage

Maybe it is like the hole diggers (shovel man) that were just filling up the holes as soon as they were dug.   The tree planter had the day off.

Once, I thought a scout bee was scoping out an area but questioned it because it was in October. Went ahead and set up a deep and used syrup, I didn't have any drawn comb or lure, the frames were waxed. Anyway, a couple weeks into it, the bees were coming and going fairly strong, When I cracked open the hive, there were a three and half frames of bees and not one spec of of comb. In the discovery of feeding another hive, I realized they'll camp out for a night and head home in the morning.

Mine were barely awake by 10 this morning on a sunny, bright, hot day! What's up with that?

Is aristocracy.

Give them to me, I'm a staunch anti-unionist and know how to break a union.

Are you sure it was a beer?   Might be mead.  Union rules, 2 drinks between each break.

Union what?

My bees form the perfect and most brutal communist organization I have ever seen.  All for the hive and the hive for one. No individualism, no private interprise, no freedom and all the bees work to death for the state "hive". Bees do not get private homes and often work on a ration of bee bread... Not too much and not too little. Heck my bees reminds me of North Korea! :?

And they work themselves to death for the hive.

Mine are happy little girls.  They have a huge patio to themselves, plus their own swimming pool.  They only take advantage of them after a long day's work though.

If we don't get a few gentle rains, I'm afraid my bees will all be underemployed and washing the same space on the runway to look busy - Union or no.
be happy and make others happy.
