Hello from Crystal Springs, MS
« on: September 06, 2009, 05:07:37 pm »
We just wanted to say HELLO! My wife and I are new to beekeeping. We are a bit rural, but we enjoy that aspect. We will be picking up our two hives and equipment in October. We have visited with Mr Tubbs in Mize, MS and will be ordering two nucs with queens from him at the beginning of the year. We have also had the pleasure of meeting a local beekeeper, Wes Fitzpatrick, who has allowed us, on two separate occasions, to assist in opening and inspecting his haives. It was AWESOME! We have joined the MS Beekeepers Association and look forward to upcoming events, classes, and people. We have read just about everything we can on the subject of bees and this site has been the biggest part. We would like thank everyone, especially The Beemaster, for helping create a site with so much information and insight! We also look forward to the upcoming years of beekeeping.

Welcome to Beemaster, we have property in Bougue Chitto. I have some hives on the property there as well as in Louisiana. This past December we had eight inches of snow in Brookhaven, very close to our property, did y'all get any snow in Crystal Springs?

Hello neighbor ,I am just down the road a bit in Franklinton,La. Welcome to the beekeeping world. When you get to Mize,Ms. should you run into my friend Gerald Vance the mayor of that town tell him Jim Stokes down in Louisiana said hello. He is not a beekeeper I don't believe, but he is a very good high tenor in the gospel world and a pharmacist.

JP....Thanks! We did get a lot of snow and we took some wonderful pictures of our dogs and horses having fun in it. The local gentleman, Wes Fitzpatrick, also lives in Brookhaven. He has property here and that's where he keeps his hives. He's like 1/2 mile aound the corner.

jimmy....Thanks! If we ever run into Gerald Vance the mayor we will gladly mention your name and hello to him.

What a small world. Ask him if he knows a man named Roy Jolly. Roy is around 82, still keeps around 10 hives, last time I visited with him. Roy has removed bees from structures for many years. Roy is a great guy.

Here's some pictures from this December and the snow: http://picasaweb.google.com/pyxicephalus/DECEMBER112008?authkey=Gv1sRgCIDa_su8jNCxRA#

Great pics JP and yes that's exactly what it looked like here. I'll definitely mention Roy Jolly's name to Wes Fitzpatrick. We are also having a MBA annual meeting in Columbia, MS on October 30-31, 2009 if you're interested in attending. We would love to meet ya! We ordered our two hives with Dadant and they are bringing it all to the meeting to save us shipping charges.

I'll see what I can do but you know that's during the bow season! I purchase a lot of equipment and doo dads from Dadant out of Paris, Texas. They are great people to deal with.

May I also suggest: http://www.gabees.com/cypress_hives.htm Rossman's sells all cypress, you cannot go wrong with cypress. Pine is ok, but will not hold up as long.

Thanks again JP....The main reason we decided to purchase from Dadant was due to saving all of those shipping costs for two fullhives (two deep bodies and two medium supers each). it was like $180.00 for shipping costs alone...Whew, that's a whole hive. We've sent off for Rossman's catalog though. Good stuff at great prices.
