I searched but all my queries did not give the desired results. I'm looking for pictures or "how to" for traps. Could someone drop some links?

Just Google, yellow jacket traps, homemade.
-
Thanks. Should have thought of that.

don't use sweet bait.

convert your wax moth traps. If you had wax moth traps just add some pepsi and several pieces of hot dog wieners to them I caught 2" layers of yj but waited too late took out 4 hives. I've never seen that many yj's . Good luck Will know better next year..JPP
I use large gateraid bottles instead of 2 liter soda bottles gives larger top to work with.
1/2 cup sugar
1/2 cup vinegar
1 old banana peel
that is wax moth mix for spring
then when you start seeing yj s then add to mix:
1 pepsi or coke
cut up pieces of weiner and add to traps.. the vinegar will keep bees out....

If you want to search for yellow jacket traps, then go to Google and make a query home made yellow jacket traps. There will become lot of search results in front of you. Choose which will better for you.

This trap was planned for wax moths but works well on yellow jackets, especially if you add a bit of bologna or hot dog...

I use a large bug zapper in my honey house. It doesn't seem to interest honey bee's but the yellow jacket hit it hard.

Thanks I was wondering if different bait works better in spring than in fall. In spring you kill a couple of queens it is way better than 50 foragers.

My spring yellow jacket queen trap consists of canned cat food with some Sevin powder mixed in. I then place it into a cat proof container with holes big enough for the queen to enter.
For late summer the wax moth trap works great because of the sweetness added. Catches wax moths and yellow jackets at the same time. I have seen a 2 litre bottle 3/4 full.
Last year I built iddee style robber screens for all my hives. They work good too.

A hive tool takes their heads off pretty good. Hmm a yellow jacket guillotine

I found the traps at the hardware store work really good. They have a liquid lure and the yellow jackets fall into the traps and drown (you have to add water). It truly stopped the endless wars that were going on.
