It is easy. You must get first a good manner mother to your queens, from which you take young larvas. You just put new larvas into swarming cells and take original away. That's is easy start. You will learn. You get about 10-15 good queen.

I have dabled in raising my own queens for a few years now. I still tend to buy some queens from reputable breeders to keep my stock diverse though.
Here is the method I have adapted to over the years.

It works pretty well and fits into my yearly requeening of my hives at the same time. It also eliminates the need for additional mating nucs.

Thanks for the info on queen rearing. I'm going to try my hand at it this summer. I think it's a good thing to keep a few "spares" on hand.
