Deconstruction of queen cells
« on: May 26, 2010, 02:05:31 pm »
When the virgin queen emerges is her cell taken down right away?  I had some nice queen cells in a nuc and when I checked on day 14 they were all gone.  I couldn't find an emerged queen and the bees were acting queenless.

If this is normal I'm wondering why they would remove the cell right away.  Seems like extra work that doesn't reap any obvious benefit.

I also tried to transfer a frame that had three queen cells to a different nuc, and the cells were gone the next day. Apparent rejection.

Thanks very much for your thoughts!

Well they probable don't all act the same but mine was there  3 or 4 days after.

And even more beautiful is knowing that you are the reason behind it!!!

I am a newbee, but i have seen queen cells on the side of the comb and from what i understand those are supersede <sp> queen cells, and the ones on the bottom of the frame are swarm queen cells, please anyone feel free to correct me if i am wrong. But i have had the queen cells show up on the side of the comb and disappear, I am not sure if the queen herself comes and tears it down or what?
