Title: Scouts and swarm traps
Post by: gardeningfireman on May 05, 2012, 06:37:03 pm
How long do scouts check out a swarm trap before the swarm possibly moves in? The swarm a few days ago moved in right away, but I have scouts checking out other traps for days at a time, then they just disappear. When that happens, should I move the trap to another location, or leave it?

About a week and a half ago I had tons of bees on 4 of my traps.  All over.   I thought because there were so many that a swarm had moved into my lucky nuc.  Checked it early in the next morning and no bees were in there.   Still today the traps are empty.

I would leave it where it is.  Your trap may not have been to their liking.  But then again, they might be back in a few days with a swarm in tow and you would hate to miss it.
