Small Swarm
« on: May 20, 2009, 10:29:03 pm »
We got a call last night about a swarm. We got to the site and the swarm was very easy to get to the were about 6' up on the end of a cherry tree branch. We got the whole swarm I believe however it was getting dark and we couldn't Identify the queen. How long should we wait to inspect the hive to find her?

a week or so, but don't be discouraged if you don't find her or eggs.  my first one this year took two weeks to start laying and i still haven't seen her, just her products.

one more thing.  sometimes those small swarms are after-swarms.  they might have a virgin queen and it might take longer for you to find her, or her eggs.
Someone really ought to tell them that the world of Ayn Rand?s novel was not meant to be aspirational.
