Moving Hives - Equipment Options?
« on: March 24, 2010, 12:06:28 pm »
Lately, I've been considering purchasing a small open trailer to move hives around in my local area. There are some small orchards and fields in our county, where I might be able to place a small number of hives.

Being a bit older, the idea of carrying hives any distance or lifting hives onto an open trailer presents a real challenge. I suspect I could place a ramp on the trailer to avoid much of the lifting problem, but there is still the problem of moving the individual hives in the field.

It seems that something like a dolly, with balloon tires or a dually set-up might work. However, a dolly would tilt the hives when I move them and shift the frames around within the hives.

Having said all this, has anyone seen a simple low cost device that a single person could use to move hives around in an out yard and onto a small trailer?

Regards,

On the General Forum dated March 23, Bailey had a good solution.
