We had a snow storm on Friday,  low 50's yesterday, (And, both of my hives were busy cleaning house!), and today they are coming in loaded to the gills with pollen!  I don't know where in the world they are finding it, but they are!  I haven't seen anything even bud yet!  But, loads of light yellow pollen.

Those girls are amazing, aren't they!

VERY HAPPY to see signs of SPRING!!!

My bees are doing the same.  I believe it is willow pollen.  YAY!

Hello rubee - just curious, what part of NY are you located in - NY is a big state that can and does have very different climates.  I have 4 hives that hare doing some spring cleaning / cleansing.  No pollen coming in yet however it's not far off that's for sure.  We are expecting colder temps in the coming days but after that cold spell I expect some nice warm spring days.

Best of luck!

David

I am in Kingston NY.  About an hour south of Albany.

I've been looking for the pollen source, but still haven't found it.  But, I haven't noticed any willows yet either.  Still looking.

Pollen here, too -- so excited!  Was worried for a bit because the folks in Tacoma were reporting it almost two weeks before I saw my girls bringing it in (I'm closer to the Cascades), but they finally found it!  Saw a drone in one of my hives already, too!

We just got dumped another 6 inches of heavy and wet snow.  The way it sounds, Easter egg hunting will have to wait until next year with the weather we are having.
Keeping bees since 2011.

Also please excuse the typos.  My iPad autocorrect can be brutal.

Still too cold here in SE Wisconsin, but all the gear is on "hot standby." We can hardly wait! Good news about bees surviving winter!  X:X

Boy I really feel as if I am missing the boat.

First year for me. Hives won't arrive until next week and the nucs won't be ready until mid April. Thinking about getting a package. Can get one around March 30th. Want to get started so bad I can't stand it.

Really exciting stuff.

Good luck guys.

It truly is enjoyable.  Even when they sting me!  I try to talk to them saying, "why are you stinging me? I'm trying to give you food!"  But, my reactions to stings has also gotten less and less each time.

The pollen collecting didnt last overly long.  We are back to cold and snowy again.  And I also have a package arriving on the 26th.  Hope spring will be back by then!

Enjoy your bees!

Low of zero this morning here and we're looking at highs in the singal digits, I'm starting to wonder when the Spring weather is coming. Our average temps are in the upper 30's and low 40's and we can't seem to get up to freezing. It must be Global Warming.

I hear ya... we got over 10 inches of the heavy wet stuff yesterday and to be honest - I'm sick of it.  Lets get on with spring!  I fed pollen patties early in the month so I'm kind of gambling that the boost in brood production wont come too early, otherwise I'll be feeding honey balls again!  Come on warm weather!
